Words of Wisdom and Motivation

"Making a difference may sometimes mean helping one child be able to be successful in the classroom, that one little sparkle will make a difference" ~Raymond Hernandez~ Executive Director, School of Early Childhood Education, University of Southern California.

Quotes from contributors to the Early Childhood field

"This is not the first time universal preschool education has been proposed..Then, as now, the arguments in favor of preschool education were that it would reduce school failure, lower dropout rates, increase test scores, and produce a generation of more competent high school graduates... Preschool education will achieve none of these results.. We simply cannot inoculate children in one year against the ravages of a life of depravation" ~Edward Zigler~

"Parents don't make mistakes because they don't care, but because they care deeply" ~T. Berry Brazelton~

Personal Childhood Web

My Daddy
I appreciate having a father figure like mine in my life. My father has taught me to follow my dreams and never give up until I have reached my goals. My father values education and he often stresses the importance of getting a good education. Because of his encouragement I successfully completed my undergraduate degree and I am now working towards my Masters. He is my motivating force, to be the best I can be in life. He always tells me "losers do what they want to do and winners do what they have to do". I love you Daddy!!

My Mommy

I chose to use a bouquet of roses as my Mothers picture; 1. Because she would kill me if she knew I put a picture of her on the web and 2. She is as beautiful as the bouquet of roses. When I was growing up I was very attached to my Mother. I didn't like leaving her sight and always worried about her when we were apart. She is my best-friend and she taught me how to be an independent, strong woman. As a kid my Mom would always tell me to "walk with my head high" despite the situation. As of this day, I still continue to walk with my head high. She taught me how to have faith and courage in all that I do and that lives with me to this day. She is the BEST!!! I love you Mom!!

My Brother

There is nothing greater than having a big brother. My brother is the only person who fully knows and understands me. I can call my brother and cry and vent and he listens, without passing judgement. When I am feeling overwhelmed, he always tell me "focus on one thing at a time". My brother has been the glue that has held things together in times of a crisis. I appreciate his strength, his love and support. I love you Bro!!

My Favorite Children's Book

The Rough-Face Girl is one of my favorite children's book. Its a Native American version of Cinderella and it shows the courage of a young girl despite the mockery of others. The young girl knew she was "different" but it didn't stop her from pursuing happiness. This book is a great read, followed by a group discussion.

Favorite Children's Poem

Children Learn What They Live

If a child lives with criticism, He learns to condemn.

If a child lives with hostility, He learns to fight.

If a child lives with ridicule, He learns to be shy.

If a child lives with shame, He learns to feel guilty.

If a child lives with tolerance, He learns to be patient.

If a child lives with encouragement, He learns confidence.

If a child lives with praise, He learns to appreciate.

If a child lives with fairness, He learns justice.

If a child lives with security, He learns to have faith.

If a child lives with approval, He learns to like himself.

If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, He learns to find love in the world.

This is my favorite children's poem; the first time I read the poem it really made me reflect. I agree with every line of this poem; children are products of their environments.
